Hunger Games

A couple of years ago, I read Hunger Games and it was so violently depressing that I opted not to bother with the rest of the series, so as not to spend much more time in that universe.

Watched the movie and felt equally depressed.

I read spoilers on the last two books just to find out what could possibly happen in them and was somewhat infuriated to find out what happens to Katniss in book 2, but I never officially read it.

We watched the movie when it came out on DVD, and though I'm usually a strong believer in "read the book first", I must say I really enjoyed getting to watch the movie and not knowing what would happen, not wishing they'd left this or that in or not changed this or that, and just enjoying the movie for what it was: A movie. It was an interesting experience.

And yet, I knew from reading the first book at watching the movie that I was probably missing a lot of important stuff, like Katniss' thoughts and motives, that would make the story more full-bodied, so out of curiosity, I picked up the second book.

I'm about halfway through it now, and I think I'm going to stick it through to the end of the series. I can't exactly remember what happens in the third book, but I'm pretty sure the Capital gets screwed over and I'd really like to see that happen. Plus, the writing is very good.

Anyway, I guess I'm reading Hunger Games now, is what I'm saying.
