Your Face

Given my tendency to fantasize about "the way things were" back in high school (it's still ridiculous to me that I've been out of high school longer than I was in it), I had to do this meme.

1. Did you date someone from your school?
Nope, I was dating drninja, who went to another school. We dated the entirety of high school.

2. Did you marry someone from your high school?

3. Did you car pool to school?
I think senior year my mom drove me, I know my dad was driving me before. Maybe a couple times I drove myself. I'm not sure...I know I was late a lot, though. (Hey, that sounds familiar!)

4. What kind of car did you have?
My mom's Toyota, Yoda.

5. What kind of car do you have now?
My Kia Rio, Mia.

6. Its Saturday night...where are you now?
Hanging out at Jim & Jessie's, watching movies or sleeping.

7. It is Saturday night...where were you then?
Oh shoot, probably hanging out with Anne and Aaron at Wendy's, Wal*Mart, or one of our houses.

8. What kind of job did you have in high school?
I know I worked at Limited Too when I was still in high school, and I really want to say that I started working at my first Subway in high school, too.

9. What kind of job do you do now?
A desk job.

10. Were you a party animal?
Ha, not the typical kind. I hung out with my friends a lot, we threw a lot of get togethers and had a damn good time, but we weren't boozing it up or dancing the night away. We were eating pizza and watching MST3K or something.

11. Were you considered a flirt?
Hells to the no.

12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
No, but I always kind of wanted to be. I had a lot of good friends in band. They were the cool kids to me.

13. Were you a nerd?
Absolutely. My extra curricular activities included Writer's Guild, Sci-Fi club and Thespian Society.

14. Did you get suspended or expelled?
Nope. I was usually a pretty good student. I started getting a little less tolerant of stupid rules my senior year, though.

15. Can you sing the fight song?
Let's cheer for Nolan High! We'll all be true to white and blue. For we are Vikings strong, and through our might, we'll win tonight. Fight fight! Fight fight! (awesome drum solo) Fight on for Nolan High, we're gonna win and win again. Our foes will have no chance, we're gonna sail on the advance. Fight fight, fight fight! (awesome drum solo to end.)

I could sing the alma mater too, if you want...

16. Who was/were your favorite teacher(s)?
Mr. Horn, my German teacher and self-proclaimed former hippie. He told us story after story about when he was a teenager, and I just ate it up. He was also a laid back dude, very honest, never bullshitted or talked down to us just because we were kids, and had awesome taste in music. And he developed the lava lamp theory of the world.

17. Where did you sit during lunch?
Senior year? On the left side of the commons, the second or third table in from the windows, on the end right near the doorway for the front hallway. Sat with all of my other nerdy friends. Man, I miss lunch time. It would be pizza day today. And yesterday was Taco Basket day. And Mr. McMahon probably sang about it over the PA.

18. What was your school's full name?
Monsignor Robert M. Nolan Catholic High School. And I'm probably one of a handful of students that knew that first bit.

19. When did you graduate?

20. What was your school mascot?
The Vikings

21. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Hmm...if you mean would I change anything, no. But I would be curious to go back and live that year again, exactly the same way, but from the perspective I have now...just to see what I was like and how I've changed. And to live in that world again.

22. Did you have fun at Prom?
I don't think so. I had a lot of fun preparing for prom and after the prom. I made my dress out of duct tape and plastic bags, and Drew covered a tux in duct tape to match. And I braided a whole shitton of extensions into my hair. But the actual dance was not so awesome. I think we may have even left early, and I tried to change out of my dress in the bathroom and I got stuck, and for a few frantic moments I thought, "I'm going to suffocate to death in here. This is how I'm going to die, in a bathroom stall at my senior prom with my arms above my head and duct tape wrapped me." And then I forced myself to relax and obviously I didn't die. Then I remember driving in Drew's Miata with the top down going back home. I'm not sure where we went, exactly, but I remember the driving and the wind and thinking that this was a very Big Important Moment, and that everything was almost over.

23. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with?

24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion?

25. Do you still talk to people from school?
Only the ones I've kept in touch with. I've found that trying to reconnect with people I knew back then and haven't seen since is kind of strange and surreal.

26. School Colors?
White and blue! Weren't you listening to the fight song?

27. Did you play sports your senior year?
Writer's Guild, Sci-Fi club, and Thespian Society...yeah, that's a no.

28. Did you get along with your parents?
I think so? I know my mom and I had a rocky patch some time after I graduated and moved out, but I think senior year we were fine.

29. What advice would you give to your senior year self?
Love it. Enjoy it. Hold onto it. Write down what happened so that when you fill out this meme in seven years, you won't be sitting around scratching your head going, "Um...I think that happened..."

30. What was your best memory?
I wish I could pick one out of the blur, but they all seem to run together. I guess I'll go with hanging out with my friends, enjoying their company and knowing that these were people who finally got me. Good times.
