WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF EVEN HAVING A REGULAR AI SHOW IF NO ONE GOES HOME BECAUSE "OMG IT'S CHARITY NIGHT"???? WHY NOT JUST HAVE A FUCKING CHARITY NIGHT AND SAY "AI WILL GO BACK TO IT'S REGULAR THINGY NEXT WEEK BUT RIGHT NOW WE'RE CELEBRATING CHARITY" AND ALL THAT JAZZ.
I would be more down with that. If they just called a spade a spade and did their charity thing, maybe even, hey, think about this, GOT THE CONTESTANTS THE SHOW REVOLVES AROUND INVOLVED, and then come back with regular, soul-crushing AI programming next week? It really bugged me that it seemed like all the contestants did were sit around and do their thing best they could in the midst of all of this "HEY THIS WEEK WE'RE FOCUSING ON DEATH" crap. I felt really sorry for them. Also, it was almost crueler than usual to go, "Whoops, no one's going home tonight at all!" because they sang their butts off (again, best they could with all this other shit) only to find out they could have sung like a turd on the lawn in the middle of summer and still made it to sing another week.
I am not against the concept. I am against the excecution. It would have been cool if they'd just had a couple days of the kids singing these songs with the goal of singing for charity, not competition, and then going out and looking at the shelters and shit too. That would have made it seem more integrated. Whatever. Last night's show pissed me off.
THE END.
