Tree Hugging Hippie

(no subject)

I am going to get the frig off of LJ Idol and take a damn shower. Then maybe do some hooping.

Yesterday I purchased a copy of The Moosewood Cookbook for myself. When I was staying in North Carolina, the people I stayed with had a copy of it and I sort of fell in love. It's vegetarian recipes, it's handwritten, and it was originally written in the 70's. It also helped that it was introduced to me as "The Ultimate Hippie Cookbook". That made the hippie in my heart do little back flips of joy.

I'm not a cook. I don't cook. But I've always wanted to learn, and I want to learn how to do it in a way that doesn't make me want to die. So I'm sort of giving myself a Julie & Julia-esque challenge, in that I want to make everything in the Moosewood Cookbook at least once. (I'm giving myself leeway on sauces & deserts, since I'm more interested in learning to cook meals.) I don't know if I'm going to inflict a time limit on it, or just try to make something once or twice a week and every time I do, it has to be something different until I've gone through the whole book. We'll see. But I figure if I do this, and I do it consistently, I'll slowly teach myself how to cook, but most importantly, how to cook with vegetables. Because I can open a box of mac & cheese and boil the shit out of that stuff, and I can make cookies out of cake mix, but when it comes to creating actual FOOD from scratch? I'd really like to do that.
